A Legacy Of Trusted Care

Detailed And Proactive Estate Planning

Even if your loved ones know your wishes, intentions are not legally binding. An estate plan allows you dictate what should happen in the event of your incapacity or death. It provides direction and comfort to your family regarding your finances, your health care, your children and your assets.

I am Annette Goudy, an estate planning lawyer who has practiced in Orange County for 20 years. I have dealt with the heart-breaking aftermath of families who “meant to” get their affairs in order but never got around to it. I invite you to explore my affordable, flat-fee services and my detail-oriented approach.

Estate Plans That Cover All The Bases

The Law Offices Of Annette L. Goudy provides comprehensive estate planning services, including:

  • Drafting or updating a will This declares your heirs and provides for the care of dependent children.
  • Durable powers of attorney – This authorizes a trusted person to attend to your financial and legal affairs if you are unable to do so because of injury, illness or diminished mental capacity.
  • Advance health care directive – This is a two-fold document that (a) appoints someone to make medical decisions on your behalf and (b) expresses your specific wishes regarding medical intervention, life support and end-of-life care.
  • Trusts – I am well-versed in using different types of trusts to accomplish specific estate planning goals. I can help you protect and legally transfer family wealth, provide for a family member with special needs, plan for nursing home care, or create a charitable legacy.

Rather than boilerplate documents, I customize your estate plan through one-on-one conversations about what is important to you and what you want to convey to your loved ones.

Follow-Through And Ongoing Support

Years ago, I helped a woman who wanted to pass her paid-for house down to her two sons. We created a trust, a Grant Deed, letters to the banks – the whole nine yards. Alas, she didn’t follow up with my instructions to have the deed notarized and recorded. That meant the trust was never funded, and her sons and the banks never knew of her intentions. When she later entered Alzheimer’s care, one son convinced her to sign over a second trust and borrowed heavily against the house. When the other son learned what his brother had done, he sued for elder abuse and to have the fraudulent trust set aside.

The whole idea was to avoid litigation and family strife. The plan was solid but never executed. To avoid another tragedy like that, I always go the extra mile and follow through with my clients – even weeks or months later – to make sure all the details are taken care of. I also help clients update their documents to reflect life changes such as new additions to the family or the end of a marriage. I aim to be your attorney for life.

Caring Support For All Types Of Families
Before I had my own two children, I helped raise four bonus boys from my husband’s previous marriage. After raising my own kids, I also ended up adopting three of my grandchildren when they were placed in my care by Social Services. So I have a soft spot for foster families, adoptive families and blended families. From my personal experience and my background in family law, I understand the dynamics of nontraditional families and their unique estate planning issues, such as termination of parental rights and questions of inheritance.

I always take extra care to ensure that children are considered in estate plans. When clients have minor children, I give them a laminated card that lists who to call and who should take the kids if something should happen to the parents.
